These are the news items relating to the Rotary year 2021/22
On Thursday 23rd June, 19 members and friends visited the Fireground Museum in Rochdale. Here we were given a guided tour of the museum, seeing many old fire fighting appliances, and hearing tales of how fires were fought in the past.

That was followed by a lovely lunch and the opportunity to have another wander around on our own, and to visit the gift shop.
On 9th June incoming President Selwyn Hodge hosted the Club Assembly where he and his officers explained to members and ADG Ian Cochrane what they intended to achieve over the next 12 months.
President Merrilyn accepting a cheque for £1,048 from Geoff Butterworth. This donation is from the sale of his works at the Rotary Gallery.
President Merrilyn was please to welcome Rotarian Yalaslav, a past President from the Rotary Club of Lviv Leopolis and his translator Christopher.

Between them they told the members of the achievements of his Club, and informed us of how they and other Rotary clubs in Ukraine are helping with the war effort in the country.
At the Club meeting on 17th March, Rotarian Paul Rowen gave a presentation on the history of the relationship between Russia and Ukraine. He helped explain a lot of what is behind the rhetoric that is heard on the news broadcasts,

After the talk, the Club agreed to give an initial donation of £1,000 to the Rochdale branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
The Grand Charity Raffle has now started, giving entrants the chance to win one of three original watercolour painting by artist Geoff Butterworth.
​
It costs £5 to enter, for which you get ten chances to win. Multiple entries are encouraged.
​
The draw will be made on 10th December 2022, with the proceeds benefiting President Merrilyn's charities.

The 2022 Classic Car and Bike Show is to go ahead on Sunday 17th July from 10am at Falinge Park, Rochdale.

Christmas Meal
Christmas came slightly early this year, with the Club Christmas meal taking place on 9th December.
​
In honour of her 60th anniversary of being a Lay Preacher, Marion Sherriff was asked to give the Christmas message, which she did with an interactive decoration of a Christmas tree.
Club Outing to York Christmas Markets
On Thursday 18th November, a coachful of members and friends took a trip to the Christmas markets in York city centre.
​
A day of shopping was followed by a lovely afternoon tea in the Dean Court Hotel.
Remembrance Sunday Parade
Sunday 14th November saw President Merrilyn take part in the Remembrance Parade in Rochdale Town Centre. She laid a reef at the Cenotaph on behalf of the Club.
Craft Fair at Rochdale Sports Club
President Merrilyn organised a Craft Fair at the Rochdale Sports Club on 24th October.
​
20 stallholders attended and along with the raffle, over £500 was raised for the President's charities.
Charter Night 21st October 2021
The Rotary Club of Rochdale celebrated the 95th anniversary of its Charter on 21st October 2021 at Rochdale Sports Club.

Members and Friends were brought up to date on the workings of the Rochdale Children's Moorland Home on 7th October, by Alison Starrs. She talked about their experiences during the pandemic and about the work they need to do on their building ready for the 2022 intake of children.
